Franklins Lake is one of the best-known waters controlled by South Cerney Angling Club within the famous Cotswold Water Park. The mature gravel pit covers around 20 acres and offers a mixture of open water, gravel bars, islands, and marginal features that create excellent carp fishing opportunities throughout the year. The venue has developed a strong reputation among Gloucestershire carp anglers thanks to its peaceful setting and quality stock of specimen fish.

Franklins Lake holds an impressive stock of carp with fish exceeding 40lb alongside a healthy number of twenties and thirties. The water also contains quality tench into double figures together with pike, perch, roach, and rudd. Its varied stock and natural features make it popular with both dedicated carp anglers and mixed-species anglers looking for specimen fish.

Successful tactics on Franklins often involve locating gravel spots and fishing accurately to bars and marginal shelves. Boilie approaches, solid PVA bags, and balanced hookbaits all produce carp consistently throughout the warmer months. Chod rigs and hinge stiff rigs can be also highly effective throughout the year. Anglers targeting tench and silver fish often score well using maggots, worms, and corn over lightly baited areas. Mobile fishing and watercraft can make a major difference when conditions change quickly across the lake.

Night fishing is permitted on Franklins Lake for members, and there is ample parking available behind locked gates. Toilet facilities with disabled access are available on site, while some swims can also be reached directly by vehicle.
