About Naseby Reservoir

Naseby Reservoir is a large and attractive fishing water situated near Naseby in Northamptonshire. Managed by the Canal & River Trust, the reservoir covers approximately 93 acres when full and offers anglers the opportunity to fish for specimen carp alongside a range of other freshwater species.

The reservoir is well stocked with the Fishers Pond strain carp, with fish reported over 40lb and typical carp weighing between 18lb and 30lb. It also holds a substantial head of roach, together with pike and perch.

Changing water levels can make a considerable difference to the fishing. During higher water levels, the dam wall provides accessible fishing platforms, while lower summer and autumn levels can expose areas of gravel reservoir bed and create additional fishing opportunities.

Tactics & Methods

Naseby Reservoir is a water where changing conditions and water levels can influence both the available swims and the fishing approach.

  • Dam wall: Popular for carp fishing and provides accessible platforms when water levels are high.
  • Gravel areas: Lower water levels can expose gravel sections of the reservoir bed, opening up additional areas to fish.
  • Roach fishing: Large shoals of roach are often found around the dam wall.
  • Winter pike: The reservoir has a history of specimen pike, with pike fishing permitted from 1 October to 31 March.

Always check current conditions, water levels and available fishing areas with the fishery bailiff before setting up.
